Human beings are perhaps never more frightening than when they are convinced beyond doubt that they are right.
-Laurens van der Post
It seems that every time we look at or listen to the news, we once again enter an Age of Negativity. We hope that we do not have to accept that this is the new normal. If it is, then how do we counteract the emotionally draining affect it has on us? Is it possible to care deeply about what goes on in our world and yet still create works of value and beauty?
So much about life it seems to me, is about weathering the weather – these words are from from a tongue twister by an anonymous British poet that I learned as a child, words that particularly in the age in which we now live, reverberate in my mind:
Whether the weather be fine
Or whether the weather be not,
Whether the weather be cold
Or whether the weather be hot,
We’ll weather the weather
Whatever the weather,
Whether we like it or not.
Constantly, we seek ways to deal with the climate of negativity in which we now live and yet still lead productive, creative lives. It is essential for us to ensure that through our potential to exercise collective positivity plus very smart thinking, we counteract this Age of Negativity on Steroids in which we now find ourselves. In THE WORLD OF GLIMPSE, the dreaded Drooma of Sooma Sooma are the negative forces that always need to be confronted and not be allowed to monopolize the Glimpsibles’ glorious color world – and their minds. These Glimpsibles, despite having to be ever vigilant, continue to create positivity. In our own world, we too have ongoing Drooma problems, something I have addressed in previous blogs:

What a great article Ellen. Negativity is like a very dark cloud that encompasses your entire being. After awhile, if not corrected, everything becomes dark and that becomes the new normal. We have to move out from under that cloud into our beautiful sunshine that is within reach of everyone. All we have to do is believe it.
Thank you, Eric! I agree with what you say: “Negativity is like a very dark cloud that encompasses your entire being.” We cannot allow our bright intrinsic or collective essence to be extinguished by that prevailing negativity. You are right: “We have to move out from under that cloud into our beautiful sunshine.” A prevailing climate of negativity has nothing worthwhile to offer; it is simply destructive.
The beauty of our mind is in the milliseconds I can be in one of my favorite places in the world. It might be in the forest, on a beautiful beach or in an opera with beautiful music. That can be an escape. You move from sadness to happiness.
Ellen, your comments are very thought provoking. Thank you.

What a beautiful statement, Sam! And this comes from someone – you – who has experienced negative destructivity at its very worst and yet made a choice to habitually invite beauty into your mind and into your life. As you say, there “can be an escape” one you yourself create by moving “from sadness to happiness.”
